    Kaizen Blitz Features

Kaizen Blitz refers to the rapid improvement workshops which are designed to bring an improvement in the functioning of all employees of various workplaces. It is away for teams to learn and carry out structured, but creative problem solving improvement over a short timescale, in an workshop environment.

Normally the kaizen event or blitz is a five day event to incorporate specific performance improvements in the participants. The participants of kaizen blitz are expected to analyze a problem, develop improvement solutions and implement them. The Management is required to give time and resources to the Blitz team. The benefits can be seen in the performance of participants within weeks.

    Kaizen Blitz

Kaizen blitz has three stages- the preparation stage, the Blitz event and the follow-up.

    Preparation stage

It involves identifying a Management sponsor, defining the improvements required, gathering available data and information, creating a Blitz team and brief the Blitz team about its objectives.

    The Blitz Event

First day- It involves review and refinement of Blitz project definition. It also involves the introduction to Blitz training.

Second day- The process map and walk-through are chalked out. The problems are identified and the requisite data is collected.

Third day- The collection of data is continued. It is then analyzed and workable solutions are developed.

Fourth day- The solutions are refined and prioritized. The implementation of the solutions is carried out.

Fifth day- In the last day of blitz event, the solutions and analysis are summarized. Long-term plans for implementation of solutions are prepared.
Lastly, outcomes and recommendations are presented to the sponsor.

    The Follow-Up

The implementation of action or solutions are continued in their normal work. The impacts and benefits are measured and submitted to sponsor.

The Blitz event is tightly defined and when there is a clear scope for implementation of solutions quickly, it leads to significant, measurable improvements for workers.

Kaizen Training: The Road to Improvement

Kaizen (Continuous improvement, changing for the better) is a practice or philosophy that is geared towards continuous change and improvement – in working life, social life, family life and personal life. It aims to change the very heart of the business, the corporate culture and structure. It turns vision into practice.

Kaizen is the continuous improvement of all levels of the organization – from workers to CEOs. It is constantly on-going and is never stagnant.

      Kaizen Training

Kaizen Training is aimed towards training managers and employees to live and breathe the principles of Kaizen. To implement Kaizen, the principles to keep in mind are:
      ● The most important asset of the company is human resources.
      ● Gradual improvements of processes are favored over radical changes.
      ● Quantitative and statistical evaluation of processes must be the basis of improvement
      ● The success of the Kaizen approach is dependent on the support of the entire structure. Managers and workers should work hand in hand to reach small goals and reach overall success.

Kaizen Training is needed by all the members of the organization in order to reach small goals. Little things add up to bigger things. Rewards, incentives, measurements and resources should all be working and aligned to the idea structure of Kaizen.

Kaizen Training should be done on a daily basis because Kaizen, itself, is a daily and continuous process. Activities and principles that could be used in Kaizen Training are:
      ● Discarding fixed and conventional ideas.
      ● Start assessing current practices and stop making excuses.
      ● Think of how something can be done, and not why it cannot be accomplished.
      ● Stop seeking for perfection. Accomplish the task right away.
      ● Making a correction for any mistake right away.
      ● Using wisdom, not money for Kaizen.
      ● Not letting hardships discourage everyone from reaching goals. Hardships bring out wisdom.
      ● Seeking root causes and asking “why?” five times.
      ● Seeking the wisdom of ten rather than the knowledge of a single person.
      ● Keeping in mind that Kaizen ideas are infinite.

Kaizen Training should also involve the five elements of Kaizen namely: improved morale, personal discipline, teamwork, quality circles and suggestions for improvement.
